MELBOURNE: Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on Friday, became the honourary member of the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC).
Taking to X handle, formerly Twitter, the club shared the development, acknowledging Tendulkar’s extraordinary contribution to the sport.
"An icon honoured. The MCC is pleased to announce that former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar has accepted an Honorary Cricket Membership, acknowledging his outstanding contribution to the game," MCC shared.
MCC, one of the Australia's oldest clubs, plays a pivotal role in the management and development of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), one of the most renowned venues of the sport.
Tendulkar, the all-time leading run-scorer in the Tests, played five red-ball and seven ODIs at the venue.
He scored 449 runs in five Tests at an average of 44.90 and a strike rate of 58.69 with the help of one century and three-half-centuries.
The right-handed batter’s overall record in Australia is equally impressive as he scored 3,630 runs in 39 Tests.
The former cricketer, who made his Test debut in 1989 against Pakistan, concluded his illustrious career in 2013 against the West Indies.
Over the course of his illustrious 24-year-long career, Tendulkar represented India in 200 Tests, 463 ODIs, and one T20I.
Tendulkar is also the leading run-scorer in the history of cricket, accumulating 34357 runs across formats with the help of 100 centuries and 164 fifties and the highest score of 248 not out.
